I’m finally trying to learn the basics of Photoshop CS4. I’ve got the camera down, and I know my way around Lightroom 2… but now there’s this whole other world of pixel manipulation that I’ve been avoiding for too long. This picture of Thomas was shot camera RAW on the Canon 5D Mark1, processed in Lightroom 2, and then framed and titled in Photoshop CS4.

I know it’s only a frame and a title, but you gotta start somewhere.

Thomas (in Color)

I was tagged in a note on Facebook to make a random album cover.

This is what came out of it…

To Do This

1 – Go to Wikipedia. Paste in your browser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to Quotations Page. Paste in your browser: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to Flickr. Paste in your browser: http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

5 – Post it to your Wall with this text in the “caption” or “comment” and TAG the friends you want to join in.

Mary also did one…

I really love how these turned out.

Hey Guys!! If you happen to be in Germany this weekend you can check out a few of my little movies showing in the cinema room at the Gasteig Cultural Center in Munich. They’ll be screened Saturday May 23rd as part of the “Lange Nacht der Musik” Festival 2009. The Festival features over 400 concerts and events taking place at various venues in Munich and the Gasteig plays an important role as Sponsor and venue for the festival. I’m honored to be a part of it. If you remember, the Gasteig had some of my other stop motion videos on display earlier this year. If like me you aren’t in Germany for the weekend, you can still check out the movies below.

(If you want to watch any of the movies larger and on Vimeo, just click the movies title or the Vimeo logo on the player).

DARK MATTER NOISE!

Dark Matter Noise! I originally made for my friend Allen Tompkins. It features music from one of his latest music projects Dark Matter Noise. It’s made entirely of still images taken with the Canon 5D Mark1. I used over 2,000 photographs for this one!

NOH-SUSPEND AT THE FUNHOUSE, SEATTLE WA.

Really, where do I begin with these guys… Noh-Suspend is one of the noisiest, loudest, happiest trio’s I know… and they always make me smile. They visit Seattle as often as they can because, as they say, we love… “Rock & Roll City! Seattle!” The above video was shot in 2007 at The Funhouse on my friend Rick Troy’s old 1990’s Sony Handicam. This is one of three videos I’ve made for Noh-Suspend on their visits from Japan. Noh-Suspend is Saida (on bass), Yudka (vox & guitar), & Keiko (on drums).

NOH-SUSPEND AT THE MONKEY PUB, SEATTLE WA.

This one was shot that same visit, also on the Handicam & another camera that Saida (Noh-Suspend’s bassist savant) brought over from Japan. Mike Henderson operated Saida’s camera, and I took the helm of the Handicam. The interview at  the head of the video was actually shot outside The Lobo Saloon in 2005, and the concert footage was shot 2007 at the Seattle U-District’s Monkey Pub.

This one I shot in 2005 at the Lobo Saloon here in Seattle. I met Saida, Yudka, and Keiko that night when the band I was in at the time called Mustard opened for them.

Have a Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone!!

Thomas

This ultra friendly kitty named Thomas just moved into the neighborhood and befriended me. The other day I was opening my car door. Thomas ran right up to me and jumped into the car to say hello. He has also dashed into the house. As you can see he’s very photogenic.

Gunnar

Gunnar wanted to climb the tree too.
